I was the head of the mobile and digital application design team at USA TODAY, overhauling the app experience across every platform. I pulled all outsourced efforts in-house and built a team to support the ideal process, execution, and delivery. The digital experiences we created resulted in an award-winning platform that balanced the customer experience with the revenue-driving partner marketing that is integral to the success of the business.

I built relationships with partners and designed other industry-changing applications:

  • - Motorola – the first news app available for Android tablets
  • - Hewlett Packard – launch partner for the HP TouchPad with pre-release prototype devices
  • - Microsoft – designed the first content application for Windows 8, which also changed their internal direction for OS-wide design direction
  • - Ford – I helped craft the first news application integrated into Ford Sync

I played an integral role in the rebranding of USA TODAY with Wolff Olins in London to build a new brand identity without losing the USA TODAY legacy brand equity.

I led an effort to redesign the working space for the digital group, changing the atmosphere and working model to bring design, engineering, and product together.

I created the first Digital Design team for Golf Channel. I had multiple roles – both a hands-on practitioner, designing and coding the main website, landing pages, emails, and banner marketing assets, as well as building and managing a team to scale the work into new areas.

I led the design and direction of Golf Channel’s first mobile apps – taking it from a simple html meant for legacy Blackberry’s to fully native apps for every operating system.

I also spearheaded the effort to create the brand, website, and apps for GolfNow – built from a number of acquisitions in the Tee-Time sales business. I also led the design and creation of a new set of native apps to allow people to book last minute tee times on their mobile devices.
